Genetic diversity and optimization for increased carotenoids biosynthesis in cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (l.) walp]
Fréjus is particularly interested in harnessing the power of both modern and conventional breeding tools to reduce the huge yield loss associated with pod borer infestation in cowpea. His Ph.D. research will provide a road map to develop demand-led cowpea varieties with resistance to insect pests, for the benefit of African communities, which heavily depend on cowpea for their protein intake. Fréjus seeks to develop his capacities to become an outstanding plant scientist capable of propelling Africa transformation through the development of end users preferred technologies, and research publications to increase Africa’s share in the global knowledge development.
